WEB DESK: Medical officials have revealed disturbing details following the recovery of multiple bodies from a manhole near Mai Kolachi, reporting that the body of a 10-year-old boy had his throat slit, while another boy aged between 13 and 14 sustained injuries to his head, face and neck.
A teenage girl, estimated to be 14 to 15 years old, was found with wounds on her head, face and neck, while a woman believed to be around 40 showed evidence of severe trauma to the skull, police surgeons said. Dr Samia confirmed that all relevant forensic samples have been collected and sent for further investigation.
Earlier DIG South Asad Raza confirmed that the victims included one man, two women and a child, and estimated that the bodies had been in the manhole for 10 to 15 days. The remains were shifted to a hospital for legal and forensic procedures.
According to police, residents had alerted rescue teams after noticing a body in the manhole. While retrieving the first body and removing stones covering the opening, three more corpses were discovered inside. Officials said bricks had been deliberately placed in the manhole, suggesting an attempt to conceal the crime. The exact cause of death will be determined after post-mortem examinations, and investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
Rescue teams have not confirmed whether the victims showed signs of torture. The incident has sparked public anger over Karachi’s recurring manhole safety issues, with repeated accidents and deaths raising concerns about municipal negligence.
