Justin Hood left darts fans in awe after a sensational 4-1 victory over world number 11 Josh Rock in the fourth round of the World Championship. The world number 86 had already made headlines by defeating Nick Kenny, Nathan Aspinall, and Danny Noppert, but his performance against Rock elevated him to a whole new level.
Hood averaged an incredible 101 and hit 10 maximum 180s, but it was his flawless doubling that truly stunned the crowd. He landed all 11 of his first attempts at double—a World Championship record—before finally missing in the last set. Despite missing five match darts, Hood sealed the win with a precise double 13, prompting Rock to lift his opponent’s hand to roaring applause from the Ally Pally crowd.
Speaking after the match, Hood said, “Just win the leg, win every leg. I’m not used to this—normally I get hate messages! This is mad, this is mad.” With the victory, Hood is guaranteed £100,000, which he plans to put toward his dream of opening a Chinese restaurant after his first year on the PDC tour. Turning to the crowd, he joked, “Who wants a Chinese? You’ve still got to pay, mind!”
Hood’s debut World Championship run has been nothing short of extraordinary, and with his composure and form, darts fans will be eagerly watching how far this rising star can go.
