LAHORE: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has strongly denounced the significant rise in petroleum prices and has declared its intention to stage sit-in protests outside the governor’s residences in all four provinces.
JI leader Sirajul Haq stated that the government’s decision to increase petroleum prices, allegedly under the influence of the IMF, has inflicted hardship upon the common citizens.
He emphasized that remaining passive in the face of the current situation is akin to surrender and called upon all citizens to join the demonstrations.

Haq expressed confidence that with the support of the public, JI would compel the government to reverse the hike in petroleum prices. He announced the launch of a protest movement against the escalating costs of petroleum and electricity.
The JI leader stressed that sit-in protests would be organized outside the governor’s residences in all four provinces and urged the public to participate actively in JI’s protest movement.
Meanwhile, Sardar Abdul Rahim of the Grand Democratic Alliance also rejected the increase in petroleum prices, attributing Pakistan’s economic woes to the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) agreement with the IMF.
