ISLAMABAD: Senior air force leaders from Pakistan and Bangladesh have held wide-ranging discussions in Islamabad, including talks on the possible acquisition of JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft, according to a statement from Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Bangladesh Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan paid an official visit to Pakistan and met with Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu. The Bangladeshi air chief was also accompanied by a senior defence delegation.

ISPR said that the talks focused on enhancing professional cooperation between the two air forces, with particular attention on joint training initiatives, capacity development and collaboration in aerospace technology.

The visiting delegation was presented with a guard of honour on arrival. During the meeting, the PAF chief briefed his counterpart on recent developments within the Pakistan Air Force and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Bangladesh Air Force through structured training programmes, ranging from basic instruction to advanced and specialised courses.

He also confirmed that delivery of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft would be expedited, along with long-term technical support and a complete training framework.

According to the statement, the Bangladeshi air chief praised the PAF’s operational performance and expressed interest in learning from its experience. He also sought cooperation in maintaining Bangladesh’s older aircraft fleet and in integrating air defence radar systems to strengthen aerial surveillance.

ISPR added that in-depth discussions were held on the potential procurement of JF-17 Thunder fighter jets, a multi-role aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China. The delegation also toured several key PAF facilities during the visit.

The statement said the visit highlighted the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh and reflected a mutual desire to further expand defence ties and develop a sustained strategic partnership.
