Islamabad police issue New Year security plan, warns against hooliganism

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have issued a security plan for New Year’s Eve with deployments at key points to curb hooliganism.
Islamabad Police Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said that a comprehensive security plan has been put in place for New Year’s eve, with more than 3,500 police personnel deployed across the capital. He said around 350 officers will be on duty for traffic management.
According to the IG, special security squads and Quick Response Force teams will be stationed at key locations in the city.
He warned that strict action will be taken against hooliganism, one-wheeling, skating on roads and incidents of harassment.
“Those taking the law into their own hands will be dealt with an iron hand,” Rizvi said, urging parents to stop their children from indulging in illegal activities.
He advised citizens to celebrate responsibly and “prove themselves to be civilised residents of the capital.”
The IG said Islamabad police will remain on high alert to maintain law and order throughout the celebrations.
Meanwhile, Karachi police have prepared a security plan for New Year’s Eve celebrations, with heavy deployment ordered to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.
According to police, a total of 7,204 police officers and personnel will be deployed across the city. These include 73 gazetted officers, 106 station house officers (SHOs) and 496 non-gazetted officers.
In addition, 4,412 head constables and constables and 2,117 lady constables will also be on security duty.
Police officials said that 336 mobile patrol vans and 646 motorcycles will remain on patrol across Karachi.
Zone-wise deployment includes 1,123 personnel in West Zone, 1,844 personnel in East Zone, and 4,237 officers and personnel in South Zone, they added.
Police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and immediately report any suspicious activity to the helpline Madadgar-15.
