BALI: Indonesia’s fast bowler Gede Priandana has etched his name into cricket history by becoming the first player in Twenty20 International cricket to take five wickets in a single over, an extraordinary feat that no bowler — in men’s or women’s international T20s — had achieved until now.

The 28-year-old right-arm pace bowler produced the stunning performance during the opening match of Indonesia’s T20I series against Cambodia in Bali on Tuesday.

In a remarkable seven-ball over — which included a wide — Priandana dismantled the Cambodian batting lineup, completing his hat-trick with the first three deliveries and finishing the over with a total of five scalps. His devastating spell played a key role as Indonesia set a target and secured a comprehensive 60-run victory.

Priandana’s bowling masterclass came after Indonesia posted a competitive total earlier in the match. With the host side defending strongly, the Cambodian innings quickly unravelled under relentless bowling pressure, with Priandana’s brilliant over turning the game decisively in Indonesia’s favour.

This historic achievement marks a significant milestone for Indonesian cricket, which has steadily grown within the global game since earning ICC associate membership. Priandana’s performance not only sets a new benchmark in international T20 bowling records but also shines a spotlight on emerging talent beyond traditional cricketing nations.

Born on 3 October 1997, Priandana has been a consistent performer for Indonesia’s national side, combining pace and accuracy to trouble batters across formats. His record-breaking over in Bali will be remembered as one of the most remarkable bowling displays in T20 International history.

Cricket analysts say such moments are crucial for expanding the sport’s appeal in countries where cricket is still developing, and Priandana’s name is now firmly part of that journey.
