LAKKI MARWAT: A somber incident unfolded on Monday when a vehicle linked to a private cement factory was struck by an improvised explosive device in Lakki Marwat, leaving at least ten people injured.
According to police officials, the vehicle was en route from Begu Khel to Lakki Marwat when the explosion occurred. The injured, including women, were rushed to a nearby hospital, where several were reported to be in critical condition.
The medical superintendent at the Civil Hospital confirmed that ten injured individuals were brought in and said an emergency had been declared to manage the situation.
Security forces have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and motive behind the attack, while security has been tightened in the surrounding areas to avert further incidents. Authorities said efforts are under way to identify those responsible and gather additional evidence.
The attack comes amid a broader rise in militant violence across Pakistan. According to the Pakistan Security Report 2025, published by the Pak Institute for Peace Studies, the country recorded a notable increase in terrorism-related incidents last year, with attacks rising by 34 per cent and fatalities by 21 per cent compared to the previous year.
The report documented 699 attacks nationwide, resulting in at least 1,034 deaths and more than 1,300 injuries, underscoring a troubling upward trend in militancy since 2021.
