ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad district and sessions court on Wednesday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill proclaimed offender in the sedition case registered against him.
During today’s hearing, judge Tahir Abbas Sipra rejected Gill’s pleas seeking stay against proceedings into the case and appearing before the court through video-link.
The judge said process of declaring Gill an absconder can only only be stopped if the accused appears before the court in person.
During the hearing, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) submitted details of all properties owned by Gill.
Further, the court ordered Gill to present himself before the court on July 31.
A sedition case was registered against the PTI leader last year in August for inciting mutiny within the Pakistan Army through his remarks on a private TV channel.
He was arrested for over a month before obtaining bail from the Islamabad High Court.
In March, Gill flew to the US after his name was removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) on the orders of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
