WEB DESK: The German government has announced the immediate termination of its Afghan refugee admission programme, citing security concerns and the involvement of some Afghan refugees in criminal activities, according to foreign media reports.
German authorities have also refused entry to 640 Afghan refugees who were previously expected to be admitted under the programme. The Interior Ministry has indicated that the possibility of further Afghan refugee admissions has now effectively come to an end.
The decision comes amid growing security concerns in Germany and follows broader international unease over developments in Afghanistan. Members of the global community have increasingly limited diplomatic engagement with Afghanistan due to the Taliban’s hardline and extremist policies, the report said.
The move marks a significant shift in Germany’s asylum policy, which had earlier positioned the country as one of the key destinations for Afghans fleeing conflict and instability.
