GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission has announced that local government and general election for the G-B Assembly will be held on the same day.
According to the Public Relations Department of the G-B Election Commission, “local government and general election in the region will be held in a single phase. For this purpose, display centres have been established across Gilgit-Baltistan to facilitate voter registration, verification and corrections in the electoral rolls.”
The election commission said that members of the public can visit these display centres until the end of this month to register their vote, verify their details, and make necessary corrections.
“Citizens can also check their voter registration and obtain details of the relevant display centre by sending their CNIC number via SMS to 8301,” it said.
The G-B election commission said that forms and guidance are available from the office of the district election commissioner/registration officer or the in-charge of the relevant display center.
On the instructions of the G-B Chief Election Commissioner, committees have been formed in all three divisions of the region to delineate district councils, municipal corporations, tehsil councils, municipal committees, town committees, and union councils for the local government elections.
According to these committees, deputy commissioners have been appointed as conveners and deputy directors of local government & rural development (LG&RD) and assistant commissioners headquarters as members in all districts.
“These committees will complete constituency demarcation in their respective districts under the Election Act 2017.”
It is important to note that the voter list verification process at display centres is ongoing for both local government and general election.
All voters have been urged to check their voter lists in their respective wards and ensure any errors are corrected promptly. Voters can also verify their details via mobile SMS.
G-B Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan said the election commission is committed to facilitating the public and hopes that citizens will make full use of the display centres to exercise their democratic right.
