LAHORE: Putting an end to a temporary perk, the free bus facility for students on Lahore’s metro bus and orange train is set to end tomorrow.
The decision, orchestrated by the Education Department in light of the winter break from December 18 to January 1, will bring to a close the complimentary travel privilege.
As of tomorrow, the free travel benefit, applicable to students up to class XII, will cease operation, according to the Secretary of Transport Punjab.
However, there’s a silver lining as the free metro bus facility is slated for a revival at the conclusion of the winter vacations.

It’s worth noting that the Punjab government had previously announced a commendable initiative, allowing individuals with disabilities, senior citizens, and students to avail themselves of free rides on both the Metrobus service and Orange Line Metro Train.
This measure, aimed at enhancing public well-being and convenience, was particularly lauded by the provincial minister.
In the face of the prevailing economic challenges and high inflation, the provision of such free transportation facilities is seen as a tangible effort by the Punjab government to alleviate the burdens faced by citizens in urban areas.
As the temporary suspension takes effect, it remains to be seen how the resumption of the scheme post-winter break will be received by the commuting public.
