Former PM’s arrest Pakistan’s ‘internal matter’: US

WASHINGTON: United States has said the conviction and arrest of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman is an internal matter of Pakistan.

Answering a question posed by a reporter, a State Department spokesperon said “The cases against former prime minister and other politicians in Pakistan are an internal matter.”

State Department also urged authorities to “respect democratic principles and the rule of law.”

Earlier in June, the US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said former prime minister “is a private citizen, and the US government does not have a stance” on private citizens.
