Faizabad dharna commission broadens inquiry scope

ISLAMABAD: The commission investigating the Faizabad dharna case has broadened its terms of reference (TORs) to probe the matter.

The Faizabad dharna commission will also investigate the appeals against the case and the reasons for their sudden withdrawal, official sources told Hum News.

The commission will also record the statements of relevant persons, if needed, and review all the reports, documents and statements related to the case.

The commission has been given four more weeks to complete its work, sources said. The commission had also summoned former director general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed for the second time, but it is unclear whether he appeared before the commission or not.

Hameed was first summoned in the second week of December, but he did not receive the notice on time, sources said. He is expected to explain his role in the controversial agreement that ended the sit-in by a religious group at Faizabad interchange in November 2017.

The agreement was widely criticised for undermining the authority of the state and the judiciary.
