LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi Monday said that there would be no extension in Punjab School holidays.
Talking to media after inspecting several development projects in the city, the Chief Minister of Punjab clarified that there is no consideration for an extension of school holidays.
He emphasized that schools in Punjab will continue to operate according to their specified timings.
The schools are set to reopen across Punjab on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, after extended winter holidays.
However, citizens in Punjab have urged the Punjab government to give another extension in school winter vacations due to dense fog and severe cold wave.
Earlier, the Punjab government extended winter vacations till January 9, 2024.
Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has already made it clear that the government has not decided on any extension.
He said that the government could consider additional holidays on the suggestions of the education department.
He expressed concern over the alarming increase in smog as Lahore and other cities topped the grim list of cities with poor air quality.
Several social media users, however, have criticized the government’s decision, voicing worries about the health and safety of students—especially young ones—during Punjab’s extreme cold.
Opponents contend that reevaluating the decision to not prolong winter holidays is necessary because of the possibility of students being sick from exposure to the cold.
