EXCLUSIVE: Details of 102 suspects in military custody for May 9 violence


ISLAMABAD: The May 9 violence was followed by large scale arrests by the law enforcement agencies, with few details making it to the public domain. Hum News has obtained a list of suspects currently in military custody for involvement in the May 9 violence, submitted before the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC).

A total of 102 persons have been earmarked for military trial for attacking military institutions, monuments and facilities across the country on May 9, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan informed a six-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, during a hearing regarding trials of civilians in military courts.

According to the list, seven people are being held for storming into the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and another four for attacking Army Institute of Military History, also based in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

56 other suspects are in custody for attacking military facilities in Punjab. A breakdown of suspects reveals that 28 of them are in custody for attacking the Lahore corps commander’s residence, five for attacking army garrison in Multan and 10 persons were involved in violence in Gujranwala garrison. Five suspects were involved in attacking an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) office in Faisalabad while another five attacked the Pakistan Ari force Base in Mianwali.

The list also includes 34 suspects who attacked military installations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Out of these, 14 suspects attacked the Dir Scouts Headquarter on Chakdara gateway while seven attacked the Punjab Regiment Centre based in Mardan. Moreover, 13 suspects were taken into custody for attacks on different military installations in Abbottabad and Bannu.
