Elections 2024: Polling starts nationwide

ISLAMABAD: Polling for the much-anticipated general elections 2024 kicked off at 8:00 am Thursday nationwide, with over 128 million registered voters expected to cast their ballots.

Amidst tight security measures, the polling stations welcomed voters, marking the beginning of a crucial democratic exercise.

The polling, set to continue unabated until 5:00 pm, allowing citizens ample time to participate in the electoral process.

It is a public holiday today to make it more convenient for the voters to exercise their right to vote in a hassle free environment.

Voters are required to bring their original Computerized National Identity Cards in order to cast the vote. Expired CNIC is also acceptable. The voters can get detail of vote and polling station by sending CNIC number through SMS at 8300.

The Election Commission has established ninety thousand six hundred seventy five polling stations in all four provinces.

A staggering total of nearly 18,000 candidates are contesting for 226 seats in the National Assembly and 590 seats in Provincial Assemblies.

Internet has been temporarily shut down in major cities Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi due to security concerns.

With various political parties vying for power, the outcome of these elections holds immense importance for the nation’s future trajectory.

The election commission has undertaken measures to ensure a smooth and transparent voting process during the elections 2024 polling, enhancing confidence in the electoral system.

A comprehensive plan has been devised to ensure security during polling.

Police personnel will be on the front, while the contingents of Pakistan Rangers will also be on their toes to back them up.

And in the event of deterioration of law and order situation, Pakistan Army will swing into action.

A monitoring room has been set up and cameras have been installed to monitor the polling live.
