ECP deliberates SC verdict on reserved seats

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) session on Thursday, to deliberate on the Supreme Court’s decision regarding specific seats allocated to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the National and Provincial Assemblies, ended inconclusively.

The meeting was chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner, Sikandar Sultan Raja.

Another session of the Election Commission of Pakistan is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock, continuing consultations on the Supreme Court’s verdict.

The Supreme Court overturned the decisions of both the Peshawar High Court and the Election Commission, mandating the allocation of reserved seats to PTI.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa announced the 8-5 majority verdict, leading a 13-member full court of the SC.

The SC also granted PTI recognition as a political party in both Parliament and provincial assemblies.
