Dense fog, severe cold grip most parts of Pakistan

WEB DESK: Cold and dry weather is expected to prevail across most parts of the country on Sunday, with temperatures dropping sharply in hilly regions, where severe cold conditions are likely during the morning and night hours. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also warned of moderate to dense fog in several plain areas, which may affect visibility and disrupt travel.

Going region by region, the PMD said that the federal capital Islamabad and its surrounding areas are expected to experience cold and dry conditions throughout the day, with chilly mornings and nights.

Across Punjab, cold and dry weather will dominate most districts. However, severe cold is forecast for Murree, Galiyat and nearby areas. Dense fog is likely to develop in many central and southern districts, including Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Shorkot, Multan, Kot Addu, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan, particularly during the early morning and night hours.

In Sindh, most districts will remain cold and dry, while fog is expected to form in parts of upper Sindh, including Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mohenjodaro and surrounding areas during late night and morning hours.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also likely to experience cold and dry weather in most districts, with severe cold conditions in the hilly regions during morning and night. Fog is expected in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan. Meanwhile, upper areas such as Kalam, Swat, Dir and Kohistan may receive rain and snowfall, accompanied by thundershowers during the evening and night.

In Balochistan, cold and dry weather will persist across most districts, while northern areas are expected to face severe cold, especially during nighttime and early morning hours.

Weather in Kashmir is likely to remain severely cold and dry, while Gilgit-Baltistan may see cloudy conditions with chances of rain and snowfall over mountainous regions.

Authorities have advised commuters and travelers to take precautions, particularly in fog-prone areas and high-altitude regions where harsh weather may affect road conditions.
