Crackdown targets power pilferers, including politicians

ISLAMABAD: An operation against power pilferers, in accordance with the Ministry of Energy’s directives, has commenced. Cases have been filed in various cities against former assembly members, politicians, influential figures, and others.
According to documents obtained by The Express Tribune, the following individuals have been charged for power theft:
- Former MNA Mehr Saeed Zafar Padhiar: Rs250,000
- Ex-District Council Chairman Rana Ayub: Rs69,457
- Former Councillor Nazar Hussain: Rs264,638
- Nadeem Ahmed Gogh: Rs414,545
- Former Vice Chairman Allah Tawakal: Rs268,112
- Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Tariq Javed: Rs205,247
- Zeeshan Ali: Rs129,023
- Sajid Manzoor alias Muna Prince: Rs560,000
- Former Councilor Rana Ejaz: Rs325,750
- PML-Q Vice Chairman Akram: Rs686,100
The Green Cap Housing Society faces a detection bill of Rs3.59 million for power theft.
Under the supervision of Chief Executive Engineer Shahid Haider, an operation was carried out against electricity thieves in all Lesco circles following Power Division’s instructions. During this operation, 330 connections were identified as involved in electricity theft.
LESCO officer facing death threats for action against former MNA for power theft
Haider stated that FIRs had been filed against all power pilferers, with 130 FIRs registered and 11 accused individuals arrested. He further noted, “All connections have been disconnected, and a total of 1,037,425 units have been charged through detection bills, amounting to Rs40.74 million.”
The Lesco chief affirmed that this extensive operation would persist without discrimination until electricity theft is eradicated. He emphasized that “electricity thieves, as well as Lesco officers and employees who support them, will face legal consequences.”
