LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) found itself dealing with an unusual request from a resident of the Mazang area, Sardar Taj, who expressed his desire to stage a public demonstration by consuming poison at Mochi Gate, insisting that it would not harm him.
Sardar Taj submitted a petition to the court, seeking permission to carry out the experiment. However, the court dismissed his request as inadmissible.
LHC judge Justice Rahil Kamran presided over the hearing and asked, “Why do you wish to ingest poison?” To which, Taj confidently replied, “I have knowledge; I will drink poison, and nothing will happen to me.”
The court responded with firm remarks, “Suicide is forbidden, and the court cannot grant permission for such an act. Are you seeking publicity stunt through this act?”
Taj remained resolute in his stance, stating, “I don’t seek fame; I simply want the court’s permission.”
Justice Kamran pointed out that in India, cancer patients had approached the Supreme Court to seek an easier way to end their lives.
He remarked, “Regarding those who seek death voluntarily, Indian Supreme Court judgments are available.”
The petitioner mentioned that he had also submitted a request to the Punjab Home Secretary to grant him permission to consume poison at Mochi Gate.
Justice Kamran responded with stern remarks, “You are wasting the court’s time. We cannot allow any unlawful activities. If you are so determined, proceed, and legal consequences will follow as per the law.”
The court deemed the request inadmissible and dismissed it.
