CM Punjab approves govt run cancer hospital for Lahore

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday approved the construction of first government run cancer hospital near Valencia Town in Lahore.

The newly-elected Punjab CM gave the approval of the project after inspecting the proposed site.

Speaking on the occasion of during her visit, CM Maryam said a government hospital will be built in Lahore for the treatment of cancer patients.

She said cancer patients will be treated free of cost in the first government hospital of Punjab. She said highly qualified best doctors and state-of-the-art latest machinery will be available in the healthcare facility.

Moreover, a hotel will also be built to accommodate attendants of the patients.

Former Senator Pervez Rasheed, Members of provincial assembly Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Sania Ashiq, Chief Secretary, Secretary C&W, Secretary Co Operative, Commissioner Lahore, DC Lahore and other relevant officials were also present on the occasion.

Earlier Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had also approved phase-wise reforms in health system and review of issues related to maternal and child health including the provision of standard treatment facilities for them.

She directed the authorities concerned to ensure that there should be no hospital in the province where doctors, paramedical staff, medicines and required medical equipment were not available. She directed for forming a health advisory council to ensure transparency. The Health Advisory Council will include government officials, professionals and public representatives.

The chief minister also called for a plan for the upgradation, construction and rehabilitation of BHU and RHC. She directed for ensuring uniformity in the external and internal design of BHU and RHC. Secretary C&W was asked to present mock designs of BHU and RHC in 2 weeks.
