ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has acknowledged the intelligence and capability of Pakistani women, stating they have proven their mettle in every field.

Addressing an event to mark the International Women’s Day in Islamabad, the prime minister said that a monitoring cell will be established in the Prime Minister’s House to stop violence against women.

“Today, as International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide, and measures are being taken to empower women in Pakistan. Women constitute half of our population, and we need to establish a system that provides them with equal opportunities for advancement,” the premier said.

He said that developed countries offer women opportunities to progress, and “we must create an environment that allows women to contribute to national development. We aim to bring the daughters of the nation to the forefront of progress.

He said that Punjab police officer Sheharbano Naqvi has made history with her courage and determination. “Women, with their capabilities, can make the nation great in every field of life. We must bring women to the forefront of development and prosperity,” Shehbaz said.

He said that in 2016, a centre for the prevention of violence against women was established in Multan.

“If we want to advance the daughters of the nation, we must provide the necessary resources to them. Currently, 25% of women are unable to utilize their abilities. We need to devise a system where women have all the powers,” he said.

The prime minister said that following the model of the Punjab Education Endowment Fund, the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund has been established, providing scholarships to students through the endowment fund.

“Now, we must move forward, leasing modern tools to bring progress to nation. We must advance in the field of sports, showcasing our best talents,” he said adding that the biggest challenge was the concept of modern education.
