ISLAMABAD: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review proposals for launching electric tram and e-bus projects in the federal capital, aimed at promoting an environmentally friendly and modern urban transport system.
During the meeting, participants held detailed discussions on the practical implementation of the electric tram and electric bus projects, including the development of supporting infrastructure. It was decided that a comprehensive feasibility study for the electric tram project would be conducted in Islamabad in the near future.
Officials briefed the meeting that the proposed tram project would include state-of-the-art depots, parking areas, charging stations and repair facilities. The system will be developed in line with a modern intelligent transport framework and integrated with existing and future transit systems in the city.
Chairman CDA noted that the entire project should be fully digital and cashless to ensure transparency, efficiency and convenience for commuters. He also stressed that the planning phase must ensure the achievement of carbon credits, highlighting the project’s role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable urban mobility.
Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed that the feasibility study should focus on connecting important areas and key locations of Islamabad to provide maximum benefit to citizens. He termed the proposed electric tram initiative a historic step towards providing modern and eco-friendly travel facilities in the capital.
The chairman reiterated that all available resources are being utilised to introduce environment-friendly transport options for residents, adding that the project would significantly improve mobility while contributing to a cleaner and greener Islamabad.
