ISLAMABAD: Senior actor Bushra Ansari said that fake social media accounts created in her name are using her photographs to ask people for money online, and warned followers not to engage with them.
In a video posted on Instagram, Ansari said the accounts use her images and say that Thursday is a day for charity. She said some of the accounts also state that an NGO is being set up in her name to help poor people and widows.
Ansari said “there is no shortage of shameless people” creating such accounts and described the activity as a “cheap tactic.”
She said that she has repeatedly raised the issue and continues to receive reports of new fake profiles.
The actor said she identified one recently created fake account that was using one of her latest photographs.
She said her personal photos are copied from her social media profiles and then used in appeals for money.
Ansari said she has reported and blocked multiple accounts, but the problem persists. She added that she does not collect funds publicly and that any assistance she provides is done privately.
She urged social media users not to follow or respond to the fake accounts and said she would continue to report such profiles.
