ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that the blue economy will serve as a game changer for Pakistan’s economic growth.

Speaking virtually at the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference 2025, the minister said that the country’s economy is moving in the right direction and the government remains committed to its agenda of implementing fundamental reforms needed for sustainable development.

He noted that there are vast investment opportunities in the blue economy, with seafood exports now reaching around $500 million. He added that the overall value of the blue economy has reportedly touched one billion dollars.

Aurangzeb highlighted that Pakistan’s maritime sector is witnessing steady progress, with the government taking concrete steps over the past two and a half years to ensure economic stability.

The minister pointed out that inflation and the policy rate have dropped significantly, while three major global rating agencies have acknowledged Pakistan’s recent economic measures. He said that support from friendly countries has also contributed to stabilising trade and the overall economy.

Aurangzeb further mentioned that efforts are under way to modernise the ports of Karachi, Gwadar, and Port Qasim, adding that effective coordination among ministries is playing a key role in driving economic growth.
