BCB writes to ICC citing security risks for team and stakeholders in India

BCB writes to ICC

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has sent a detailed letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), highlighting security concerns in India and raising other important issues.

According to media reports, the letter responds with evidence to all questions raised by the ICC and also highlights issues related to the security and visas of not only the team, but also media personnel, fans and other stakeholders.

The BCB has included the government’s position and statements in the letter, emphasising security concerns, government policy and the team’s reservations.

The letter comes against the backdrop of an incident a few days ago in which, following threats by extremists in India and directives from the Indian cricket board, IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders dropped Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their squad.

After the incident, the Bangladesh Cricket Board had made it clear that India was not safe and that its team would not travel to India under any circumstances.

In addition, the Bangladesh government has also taken the position that due to security concerns, the team will not tour India during the World Cup.

According to the BCB, this step is necessary to ensure the safety of players and stakeholders and to maintain a transparent and secure sporting environment.

Analysts say the BCB’s firm stance marks an important milestone in highlighting player safety and the risks present in India in international cricket.
