Andy Dick needed Narcan after collapse in new overdose update

Andy Dick

This update follows this week’s initial report on Andy Dick’s apparent overdose in Hollywood, as new eyewitness details reveal the comedian had turned blue and required Narcan to be revived.

Security guard Shawn Harrell, who works in the area, said he saw the 59-year-old slumped over and unresponsive before bystanders attempted to help him. He said Dick’s face and hands appeared discoloured when he was first approached.

Harrell recalled that people at the scene immediately began administering Narcan and trying to keep Dick conscious. He said they used more than one spray before Dick began to respond.

Incident lasted around 10 minutes

Harrell estimated the entire incident lasted about 10 minutes. Paramededics eventually arrived, though he said he was surprised they left Dick at the scene after assessing him. According to Harrell, Dick appeared dazed but on his feet shortly afterwards.

He added that the chaotic moment felt almost surreal. “There were some guys with cell phone cameras. I thought it was part of a movie.”

Dick later says he had used drugs before collapsing

After the incident, Dick told TMZ he was alive and “110 percent fine”. In a follow-up interview, he said he had used drugs with a man he met in the area shortly before collapsing. Two friends who were present during the incident also appeared with him in the video.

Dick has long been open about his struggles with addiction, with periods of treatment, relapse and legal challenges spanning several decades.
