ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi was presented a farewell guard of honour at the President House, after his five-year term came to end on Friday.

President Dr. Arif Alvi  completed his five-year constitutional term today, Friday, after overseeing two transitions of power.

President Alvi after receiving the farewell guard of honour, shook hands with President House staffers.

It is learnt that he will not vacate the office and continue to perform his duties until the election of a new president, which will be held tomorrow. 

Zardari, Achakzai vying for presidential election tomorrow

Alvi took oath as the 13th president of Pakistan on September 9, 2018, after former prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party came to power in general elections that year.

The three presidents before Dr Alvi who completed their full terms were Chaudhary Fazal Elahi (fifth president, from 1973 to 1978), Asif Ali Zardari (11th, from 2008 to 2013), and Mamnoon Hussain (12th, from 2013 to 2018). Dr Alvi is the third consecutive president to have a full term.
