ADB approves USD381m loan for Punjab’s development sectors

Asian Development Bank

WEB DESK: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD381 million loan package aimed at improving key public services in Punjab, according to an official statement issued on Friday. The funding will be directed toward strengthening the province’s agriculture, education and health sectors.

The ADB said the approved amount includes a USD120 million concessional loan, which carries softer terms to support long-term development. An additional USD4 million in grant assistance is also part of the package.

According to the bank, a significant portion of the funds will be used to upgrade educational facilities across Punjab, helping improve access and the quality of learning environments. The loan will also support enhancements to public health infrastructure, enabling better services and upgraded medical centres in underserved areas.

A major component of the programme focuses on agriculture. The ADB said the financing will help provide small farmers with modern agricultural tools, technologies and support services. This is expected to increase productivity, improve livelihoods and strengthen climate resilience within the province’s farming communities.

The development lender emphasised that the funding package is designed to boost human development indicators, reduce regional disparities and support sustainable growth across Punjab.
