LAHORE: Dense fog has enveloped the cities of central Punjab, including Lahore, leading to poor visibility, accidents, and making navigation challenging.
The severity of the fog caused the motorway to be closed for traffic in many places. Citizens say that even fog lights are of no use in many places.
Dense fog on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road led to a massive accident near Chungi No 5 in Jhelum in the wee hours of Thursday, leaving 30 persons wounded.
Around 10 vehicles collided with each other as the visibility turned almost zero due to fog.
Police and rescue teams reached the spot after being informed and shifted the injured to hospital. According to rescue sources, five of the injured were in critical condition.

In another instance, a car carrying a family travelling to Lahore from Narowal fell into a nullah in Chungi Amar Sadhu, leading to one person being killed.
Rescue 1122’s director general appealed to the public to be punctual as hurrying on roads led to many accidents. He also said that people should pause their commute in case of dense fog instead of trying to push through.
The DG added that the fog also posed the problem of inaccessibility for the rescue vehicles, who would be unable to reach the site of the accident on time.
