A cold, wet farewell to 2025 as rain, snow grip most areas of Pakistan

WEB DESK: Rain, gusty winds and snowfall are expected to affect large parts of the country on Wednesday, with snowfall likely in mountainous regions, according to the Wednesday weather forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Islamabad, several districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir are expected to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thundershowers, while snowfall is anticipated in higher elevations. Fog is likely to develop in parts of northeast and south Punjab as well as upper Sindh during the morning and night hours. Other areas of the country are expected to experience cold and partly cloudy conditions.

In Islamabad and its surrounding areas, the weather is expected to remain cold and partly cloudy, with intermittent rain, strong winds and thundershowers likely during the day.

Across Punjab, most districts will experience cold and partly cloudy weather. Rain with strong winds and thundershowers is forecast for Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Faisalabad, Layyah and nearby areas. Rain and snowfall are expected in Murree, Galiyat and surrounding hill stations. Light rain may also occur in Jhang, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Shorkot, Multan, Kot Addo, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Kasur, Khanewal, Khanpur, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Fog is likely to persist in some plain areas during morning and night hours.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, intermittent rain is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak and Kohat, with snowfall in mountainous regions.

Sindh is likely to experience cold and partly cloudy weather in most districts. Thundershowers are expected in Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur and coastal areas during the morning, while fog may form in Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mohenjo Daro and surrounding areas during the morning and night.

In Balochistan, rain with strong winds, thundershowers and snowfall is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan and Musa Khel. Other districts are expected to remain cold and partly cloudy.

Meanwhile, intermittent rain and snowfall are forecast for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan throughout Wednesday.
