ECP fines candidates for breaching electoral code of conduct

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken punitive measures against 24 candidates for the upcoming elections 2024 and a chairman of a union council for breaching the established code of conduct governing elections, local media reported on Friday.
Aqib Ismail, a candidate from NA-23, incurred a fine of Rs 50,000, while Noorani Khan of PK-99 Awami National Party (ANP) faced a Rs 10,000 penalty. Similarly, candidate Ikramullah Ghazi from PK-39 received a fine of Rs 10,000.

In PP-214, candidates Shahzad Maqbool Bhatta and Muhammad Sharif Rajput were each fined Rs 15,000, while candidate Usama Gujjar from PP-282 faced a Rs 20,000 penalty.
The ECP has issued a total of 71 notices so far to candidates and other individuals across various districts for violating the model code of conduct.
The fines will be submitted to the National treasury through the returning officers (ROs).
