PKR edges up 7 paisa in early trading against US dollar

KARACHI: On the second-to-last trading day of the week, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 7 paisa against the US dollar, with currency exchange companies quoting the greenback at Rs278.70 before 10:00 AM.
Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the PKR has weakened by 42.83 paisa or 0.15 per cent against the US dollar.
Additionally, it has depreciated by 21.95 paisa or 0.08 per cent since the start of 2025.
Previous closing
In Wednesday’s interbank session, the PKR depreciated by 4.73 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the US dollar, closing at Rs278.77 compared to the previous closing of Rs278.72.
PKR’s performance against other foreign currencies (January 15, 2025):
Riyal to PKR: The PKR weakened by 1.26 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the Saudi Riyal, closing at Rs74.26.
Dirham to PKR: Against the UAE Dirham, the PKR depreciated by 1.08 paisa or 0.01 per cent, closing at Rs75.89.
Yen to PKR: The local currency also fell by 0.67 paisa or 0.38 per cent against the Japanese Yen, ending the day at Rs1.7768 compared to Rs1.7701.
Pound to PKR: Against the British Pound, the PKR decreased by 89.40 paisa or 0.26 per cent, closing at Rs341.09 compared to Rs340.19 a day earlier.
Euro to PKR: The PKR dropped by Rs1.54 or 0.54 per cent against the Euro, settling at Rs287.24 from the previous value of Rs285.70.
Franc to PKR: Against the Swiss Franc, the PKR depreciated by Rs1.30 or 0.43 per cent, closing at Rs305.80.
Yuan to PKR: The PKR remained unchanged against the Chinese Yuan in last two sessions, closing at Rs38.02.
