ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has denied the rumours circulating on social media regarding an amnesty scheme for smuggled vehicles also known as non-custom paid (NCP) automobiles.

In a statement, the FBR stated that the rumours about an amnesty scheme being considered for the regularisation of smuggled vehicles were “baseless.”

“There are no proposals under consideration at the FBR regarding the regularisation of smuggled vehicles,” the FBR clarified.

The FBR also urged the general public not to believe any such misinformation circulating in social media or any other unverified sources.

Under the new tax regime introduced in budget 2024-25, the tax on vehicles is no longer a fixed amount but varies according to the vehicle’s value.

Earlier this year, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence seized a variety of smuggled goods, collectively valued at more than Rs6 billion in a series of information-based raids conducted from July to December 2023.
