Interbank closing: PKR gains 7.04 paisa against USD


Pakistani rupee vs foreign currencies

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) strengthened by 7.04 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the US dollar (USD) in Friday’s interbank session, closing at PKR 277.67 per USD, compared to the previous close of PKR 277.74.

During the session, the currency reached an intraday high (bid) of 278.00 and a low (ask) of 277.90.

On a weekly basis, the PKR gained 7 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the USD. Since the start of the current fiscal year, the rupee has risen by 67.15 paisa or 0.24 per cent. So far this calendar year, it has appreciated by PKR 4.19 or 1.51 per cent.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 276.96 for buying and PKR 278.74 for selling.

PKR’s performance against major currencies

In comparison with other major currencies:

– The PKR gained 7.93 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the Swiss franc, closing at PKR 312.99.

– It fell by 1.47 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the Saudi Riyal, closing at PKR 73.94.

– It strengthened by 1.92 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the UAE Dirham, closing at PKR 75.60.

– The PKR dropped by 42.55 paisa or 0.15 per cent against the Euro, closing at PKR 293.50 from the previous PKR 293.07.

– Against the British Pound, the PKR appreciated by 89.45 paisa or 0.25 per cent, ending at PKR 351.54 compared to the previous day’s close of PKR 352.44.

– The rupee depreciated by 0.34 paisa or 0.19 per cent against the Japanese Yen, closing at PKR 1.7856 from PKR 1.7822.

– It declined by 5.21 paisa or 0.14 per cent against the Chinese Yuan, closing at PKR 38.42 compared to the previous PKR 38.37.
