KARACHI: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has raised concerns regarding the difficulties faced by taxpayers in filing their income tax returns, urging the government to extend the deadline by one month.

According to KCCI, the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) online return submission portal is malfunctioning. As a result, taxpayers attempting to file their returns are encountering system slowdowns or complete inaccessibility.

KCCI President Iftikhar Sheikh highlighted that complaints about the system are consistently received during this period each year. He stressed the need for the FBR to enhance its automated system’s capacity to alleviate the challenges faced by taxpayers.

According to Express News, he further stated that while the government is taking strict action against non-filers, the inefficiencies of the FBR are preventing many people from filing their returns.

Simplifying the return filing process is the need of the hour, as the current system’s sluggishness and complexities discourage taxpayers from submitting their returns.
