Gunfire was also heard in the area, with emergency services rushing to the scene. Two police officers were injured in the explosion, the report added.

The blast was the first in Ankara since 2016, and comes on the day that parliament was set to open a new session.

He wrote, “Two terrorists came with a light commercial vehicle in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of Internal Affairs and carried out a bomb attack”.

The authorities did not identify any specific militant group for the incident. Turkish Police has announced that they would carry out controlled explosions for “suspicious package incidents” in other parts of Ankara.

Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan Anwar ul Haq Kakar has condemned the terrorist attack in Ankara. He said, ” Pakistan stands with our Turkish brothers and sisters in the war against terrorism”.

“Under the leadership of Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkiye will deal with these challenges”, the caretaker prime minister said.
